Choosing Whites - Here Are Tips on Different Kinds of White Wine

There are several types of white wines; however Chardonnay is the most popular among wine connoisseurs when it comes to white wines. A Chardonnay that is good will have notes of caramel and vanilla with hints of baked apple. The acidity of a good Chardonnay will be high so it can with stand food. Chardonnay prices will range from a cheap $1.99 bottle to bottles that are $1400 and other prices that range in between the two.

Other white wine types are:

Pinot Gris/Grigio
Sauvignon Blanc
Viognier
Riesling

Pinot Gris is the second favorite of white wine types. This white wine is an inexpensive wine to try out for those who are on a budget but yet love the sophistication of white wine. Pinot Gris has hints of pear and goes wonderful with seafood.

Sauvignon Blanc is another favorite white wine for the wine connoisseur. This wine will also be a good choice for when breaking the bank is not an option. Sauvignon Blanc white wine has a citrus flavor that will go good with almost anything or for that matter nothing at all. This white wine is filled with notes of lemon and grapefruit.

Viognier white wine is becoming more popular. The smell of this white wine is more tropical smelling than any of the others. It has notes of peach and banana. Viognier white wine in comparison to other white wine types has higher alcohol levels.

Riesling is another type of white wine. This white wine has a more earthy smell to it because it ages better than most wines. Riesling white wine often comes from Germany and will be somewhat pricey.

There are other white wine types, but they are not nearly as popular as the top five mentioned here. They include Gewurztraminer, Marsanne/Roussanne, Semillon and Muscat.
