The Proper Temperature for Serving Red Wine

In order to experience the true aroma of wine it must be served at the proper temperature. The proper temperature for red wine is "cellar temperature" which is usually between 60 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit.

The lighter red wines such as Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc and Beaujolais are best when served at a slightly cooler temperature. Most wine connoisseurs recommend that they be served at approximately 55 degrees. Darker red wines such as Australian and California Cabernets, Bordeaux and Rhone are best when served at approximately 60 degrees.

If you do not have a wine cellar, you may place your red wine in the refrigerator for forty-five minutes. If you are in a hurry, you may place your wine in an ice bucket filled with a mixture of ice and water for ten minutes. This will give the fastest results and will help to preserve the full flavor of the wine.

Without a chart it is hard to know the correct temperatures for red wine and white wine. Since there are many varieties of decent wines and most alcohol beverages should be served at different temperatures, one way to know the correct temperature for this particular wine is to use a chart or ask the wine yard that produced the wine.

There are dessert wines, syrah shiraz and merlots at each should be served at specific temp. When the summer heat strikes, it's easy that your wine will become to warm and in these cases, having thermometer is a good thing before drinking.
