How to cut a wine bottle with burning string

You can cut a wine bottle in half without using a glass cutter. A burning string and a bucket of ice water is all you need.

Supplies:

* Empty wine bottles
* Cotton string
* Scissors
* Lighter fluid
* Matches or cigarette lighter
* Bucket of ice water
* Leather gloves
* Fine carbide sandpaper or a very fine-grained round file

Cutting the Bottle:

1 - Tie a piece of string snugly around the wine bottle.
2 - Slide the string off and saturate it in lighter fluid.
3 - Slide the string back onto the bottle to where you want the cut.
4 - Cut the free ends very short.
4 - Set fire to the string.
5 - Wait about 30 seconds. (Time may vary with bottle thickness,)
6 - Dip the wine bottle in the ice water. The bottle should crack apart under the string.
7 - The edges are razor-sharp. Smooth them with the sandpaper or file.

Cutting a beer or wine bottle isn't anything that I would try myself. Doing anything with a cutter takes special knowledge and I advise anyone to stay away from it, unless you are a professional glass cutter. Myself I prefer the wine bottles corked and to be enjoyed with nice lights at special occasions such as Christmas.
